October in New York doesn’t just boast some of the most comfortable weather, it’s also when some of best bars pull out their best Halloween vibes.

I’d typically not choose the Garret Cocteleria as a top spot to visit for Halloween, but this year this bar has designed a beautiful Dia de los Muertos pop-up, and offering a small menu of tacos, nachos, and ceviche.

House of Wax in New York, United States

When it comes to House of Wax, your only path to several delicious craft beers is to first pass several eerie wax heads and figures. The bar is meant to be an ode to the touring attractions of the 1800s and it definitely pulls off the theme. For more fun, book a scary movie viewing at the Alamo Drafthouse, an eat-in theater with delicious food and drinks which is based in the same building.

The Cauldron NYC Magical Pub in New York, United States

The Cauldron is a small, magical bar, with mystical details like beer from taps built into a multi-faced tree, faux heads of magical creatures, cocktails in cauldrons. Though, in my opinion, their burger is magical enough. For Harry Potter fans or those wanting some extra fun, a ticketed potions class allows witches and wizards to create three fabulous cocktails.

Fraunces Tavern in New York, United States

While this bar doesn’t necessarily dress up for Halloween, it is the oldest bar in the city dating back to 1792. I usually go for the beer and short rib sliders but many go in hopes of having a paranormal experience, since a bar over 250 years old can’t possibly be free of haunts.

Oscar Wilde in New York, United States

In the Spring, Oliver Wilde is decked out in vibrant florals but come fall and this restaurant and bar takes on an entirely haunted feel. Decorations include spiderweb adjourned skeletons, marionettes, and terrifying clowns.

Beetle House in New York, United States

Beetle House is a fun spot to visit year round but especially during the month of October or right after seeing Beetle Juice on Broadway. This bar brings you right into the mind of Tim Burton, and offers some ingenious cocktails such as the Blood Bag and Jameson and The Giant Beach. Dinner is prefix and I highly recommend grabbing a reservation for a full night.

Both Lillie’s locations go all out for the holidays - which is why it’s always been a staple on my personal unofficial official Christmas pub crawl. But in October, Lillie’s pulls out the clown dolls and tower of skeletons making for a creepy atmosphere while you enjoy your truffle fries and exquisitely named cocktails.
