Located in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles, Musé d’art Contemporain (MAC) is Canada’s first museum dedicated just to contemporary art. This eight room musé is home to four permanent collections and four temporary exhibits—like Julian Rosefeldt’s 2015 Manifesto: a thirteen-channel immersive video installation featuring Cate Blanchette— and features a blend of local artists, international events, creative workshops, and outdoor installations. Three hours is plenty of time for a casual first visit (MAC Montréal is open to 6pm on weekends), and admission is $10 per visitor.

The Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal is a world-renowned institution that features an expertly curated display of both Canadian and international contemporary artists. Along with an array of temporary galleries highlighting unique and culturally relevant themes, MACM has a permanent collection that reflects important trends throughout contemporary art. MACM was the first museum of its kind in Canada, originally founded by the Quebec government in 1964 as the only museum exclusively dedicated to displaying both contemporary visual and performing arts. The museum is currently located in the bustling and vibrant Place des Arts, the largest cultural complex in Canada.
