Los Angeles

A sprawling Southern California city famed for Hollywood, diverse culture, beaches, and the entertainment industry.

Tips from the community

Los Angeles’ many gardens are in bloom with cherry blossoms each spring. Some of the best sakura sightseeing spots include the 1.3-mile footpath around Lake Balboa in the San Fernando Valley, the one-acre Japanese garden at Descanso Gardens nestled in the La Cañada Flintridge area that contains flowering cherry trees, karesansui (raked Japanese dry gravel garden), teahouse, and minka (Japanese farmhouse), and the Japanese garden at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, which is pretty in pink with ornamental cherry trees. Cherry Blossom festivals in the area include the annual Los Angeles Cherry Blossom Festival at Columbia Park in nearby Torrance, California on March 26, the Huntington Beach Cherry Blossom Festival on April 14-16, the Monterey Park Cherry Blossom Festival on April 15-16, and the Plaza West Covina Cherry Blossom Festival on April 22.

Join Los Angeles in celebrating Hanukkah by attending Infinite Light, a Hanukkah Festival that “dedicates itself to reimagining Hanukkah through inclusive community building and creative Jewish experience.” If you’re in town for a quick visit, book a suite at the Montage Beverly Hills for a cozy stay and nightly menorah lighting ceremony in the hotel’s lobby. And don’t forget about the annual Hanukkah festival held at the Skirball Cultural Center for storytelling, good food, art, and live music.

Each year on May 5th, Los Angeles hosts Fiesta Broadway: the largest Cinco de Mayo festival in the world. From sun up to sun down, expect mariachi bands, authentic street food, and wild carnival rides. If you’re interested in learning more about the history and culture behind the holiday, head to the Museum of Latin American Art or the traditional Mexican Marketplace on Olvera Street: the “birthplace of Los Angeles.”
